UPC-A is a 12-digit numeric barcode. Its structure and check digit explain the input rules on this page.
The number is made of a number-system digit, manufacturer and product digits, and a final check digit.
It is calculated from the first 11 digits with alternating weights of 3 and 1, counted from the right. Entering 11 digits calculates it; entering 12 verifies it.
UPC-A uses the EAN-13 bar structure with a leading zero. The generator keeps a minimum quiet zone of 9 modules on each side.
A UPC identifies a product number. It does not show the product name, the price, or whether the number is registered.
Use only numbers you are entitled to use. The generator does not allocate or check UPC numbers.
Scanning is sensitive to print quality and size. Test a printed sample before using the barcode on packaging or labels.
Leave clear space on both sides of the bars, free of text, borders and images.
Do not stretch the barcode. Scale the file uniformly, and keep the bar edges sharp.
SVG scales without loss, and PNG keeps module edges crisp. JPG can soften edges.
This tool does not apply GS1 magnification or size rules. Confirm the size and print requirements for your product before printing.
